Highly visible speed/red light cameras
Hi Strong Towns,
Is there any data or precedents regarding utilizing super high visibility traffic cameras and how that affects driver behavior?
While I see utility in traffic cameras, I would like them to function more like a speed hump, and less like a speed trap.
Are there any examples of jurisdictions that pushed the envelope on this? Like making signal boxes at signalized intersections caution orange if there is a speed or red light camera at the intersection. Or painting the actual cameras a color that is highly visible and use some bold font to label them as speed cameras.
While I could see some potentially braking abruptly when they see these items, are there other reasons why this might not be a good idea?
Curious to get input here.
Thanks-
Danny Schaible
