Hello Everyone, My name is Brandon,
I'm a new member who has become very interested in the Strong Towns movement. I've read the book and have been reading articles here and there. I'm interested in learning of any examples of Strong Town examples in smaller towns specifically less than 10,000 people. I and grew up in a small town that fluctuates around 5,000. The entire town is sprawl with single family homes dominating the residential market. The largest employers are government, utilities, a regional hospital, and the school system. Private business is few and far in between. Most shopping occurs in a larger town approximately 30 miles away. There is no "downtown" with commercial spaces that are close together located on a street. Most of the roads are 5 lanes (4 lanes and one median) which people drive very fast on.
I'd like to help my town but would like to see if there are any other examples of how that would look like with a smaller town.
My idea is to start with a small mixed-use building with maybe 2 small commercial spaces on the bottom and maybe 2 or 3 apartments on the top. However, because most of the roads are stroads, I'm not sure where a good location would be. So, are there any examples that you know of? Any help would be appreciated.
