Why was this crash nominated?

  • Grissom Road features four through traffic lanes and a center turn lane that all vary significantly in terms of width; this seems like a factor that would make navigation difficult.
  • Pedestrian infrastructure and traffic calming features at this intersection are limited; at first glance, you can see one sidewalk on the north side of Grissom Road and one stop sign on Old Grissom Road at the intersection.
  • Strong Towns believes this crash and evidence of speeding in this area both exemplify the importance of design speed as a component of traffic safety.

What additional information is available?

  • A diagram to assist you with visualizing and understanding the measurements of the crash location.
  • A folder containing the speed study and processed speed data.
