In January 2023, Strong Towns launched the National Crash Analysis Studio to model a new standard of care for cities, towns, and neighborhoods concerned about reducing automobile fatalities.
Through a series of live web broadcasts, an assembled team of technical and neighborhood experts demonstrate how to do a full-cause analysis of fatal automobile crashes. They look at data, hear testimony, and document the many factors that contributed to each crash.
Most importantly, they publish a list of those factors so that the community can learn from the tragedy and work to reduce the number of traumatic crashes over time.
The Strong Towns Crash Analysis Studio is for local leaders—inside and outside of government—wanting to move beyond the Green Book, MUTCD, and other highway-derived design manuals to set a new standard of care for traffic safety. Follow along and learn how to make your community a Strong Town.
Strong Towns is currently working with city and municipal governments to explore adoption of the Studio approach at the local level. You can sign up for email updates on the Crash Analysis Studio. You can also view Studio Sessions on the Action Lab as they become available.
