- Ellen Zavisca has been a transportation planner with Knoxville-Knox County Planning and the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization since 2005. Her focus has been on safety for all modes, greenway planning, Safe Routes to School, and health. Her projects have included creating multiple bike/ped and greenway plans; building databases and maps of traffic crashes in the Knoxville region; and rejuvenating the Great Smoky Mountains Regional Greenway Council. She is certified by the League of American Bicyclists as a bicycle safety instructor and teaches Street Skills for Bicyclists classes and bicycle rodeos. She has a master’s degree in urban planning from University of Illinois Chicago. Ellen also has professional connections in the Bradenton and Sarasota area.
- Danny Williams is a long time resident of the Sarasota/Manatee metropolitan area; he commutes via bicycle daily through traffic conditions similar to those being examined in this analysis. Danny has lived in south Sarasota county since 1970 and currently works in IT consulting. He sees family members grappling with safety, accessibility, and financial issues linked to stroads and local development patterns on a daily basis. Danny advocates for safer, more equitable, and more sustainable mobility options for all of us - especially so our seniors can gracefully age-in-place and our kids have real options free from the financial burdens and risks of car dependence.
- Loren Lysen is the general manager of Gold Tree Co-Op, which is the resident-owned community adjacent to the intersection where the crash took place. Loren expressed his interest in participating to Danny, and is a representative of the Gold Tree board today. As someone who commutes to and within the area on a regular basis, he has experiential knowledge of Lockwood Ridge road and the streets nearby it.
- Carl Jones is a local expert who grew up on Lockwood Ridge Road between Honore Avenue and State Route 70. He lived there for fifteen years and is living in that same area again now. Carl decided to participate because he is passionate about infrastructure and development patterns.
- Charles Marohn is the president and founder of Strong Towns, a civil engineer and author of the book Confessions of a Recovering Engineer: Transportation for a Strong Town. He developed the initial idea for the Crash Analysis Studio.
